Healthy Filling Breakfast Smoothie + FACTs +TIPs

Healthy Breakfast Smoothie by

This is one of those short and sweet posts that you can whiz through on a toilet break but hopefully learn something useful from.

I’m sharing today my current favourite/staple breakfast smoothie. I can’t get enough of this thing its tasty, filling and full of goodness. Although my favourite part about it is I always have the ingredients on hand.

Ingredients: (I’ve listed the quantities I use but feel free to make it your own)

1 Frozen Banana

1/4 Cup Oats (I used rolled oats)

1/4 Almond Milk

Splash of Vanilla Extract

Dash of Cinnamon

A few cubs of Ice

1/2 Cup water (Just enough to help your blender/bullet whiz around easily)

Pop it all in your blender or bullet esk whizzing machine and go for your life. Now I promised that this would be ‘full of goodness’ so allow me to enlighten you (if you don’t already know 😉 ).

Banana’s: High in Potassium which helps lower your blood pressure. They are also full of dietary fibre which is perfect in the morning to get everything moving.

Oats: Low GI food which means a slow constant release of energy (feel fuller for longer).

Almond Milk: Is just a-m-a-z-i-n-g, one of the more special benefits to note are flavonoids which help to protect the heart, and then there is the obvious protein, calcium, manganese, iron etc.

[If your trying to loose weight substituting any dairy milk for a plant or grain based alternative will help. As whole milk per cup has 136 cal, light milk 95 cal but almond milk only has 39 (brands depending)]

Cinnamon: One of the bests spices ever. It can lower blood sugar levels, reduce risk of heart disease, its loaded with anti oxidants, and anti-inflammatories etc.

Water: Hydration -> great for everything 🙂

See told ya’. :):) x

now back to work 😉

Minimal Travel Make Up Bag!

simple make up bag therose

A month trekking around Italy with layovers in Dubai and Singapore as well as countless train trips meant that my luggage had to be strategically packed and strictly weighed. Thus the amount of space allotted for luxuries like makeup was small. So I packed things that had multiple functions.

They’re Real Benefit Mascara: For the obvious eyelashes but also to tame the brows.

Foundation Stick Bobbi Brown: Concealer, Eyeshadow base and Foundation this beauty can be applied as either or all. Read review here.

Eyeshadow Duo: Eyeshadow and highlighter. Read review here.

Benefit Blush: Eyeshadow, blush and Lip tint. Swatches.

Paint Pot Benefit: Eyeshadow and Eyeshadow base. Swatches.

Nivea SPF 15+ Lip Balm: Lip Balm and slight sunscreen for the nose.

Revlon Concealer: Just the usual however you could use it over your lip balm as a nude lip colour (sparingly).

Bobbi Brown Eye Liner: Standard application 😉 although if you packed a coloured liner it could also be used as a lip liner, at a pinch.

Not only did this concise make up bag help with the weight issues. It also made getting ready and transitions from day to night quick and easy as there was little choice. I can’t suggest this packing style enough especially if your tight for space and/or time.

Melting Chocolate Cookies! Simple 5 Ingredient Recipe.

Melting Chocolate Cookies Melting Chocolate CookiMelting Chocolate Cookies

I know what your thinking, how oh how do I make these delicious looking (and tasting) cookies. Well my friends from the time you read this post to the bite of your first cookie could be less then 20 minutes away.

You’ll need:

1 cup Self Raising Flour

1 Cup Plain Flour

1/3 cup Milk

125g Butter

125 Caster Sugar

300g of chocolate

Preheat oven to 160*C

Cream your butter and sugar together then sift in your two different flours and add the milk. Stir to combine then add in your chocolate. To get these gowy bad boys I used a block of milk chocolate and half a block of dark and just roughly cut them into chunks.

I broke my recipe into 10 cookies, but they were quiet large it could easily make double that. Depending on how many cookies you split your batter into place them in the oven for 15 minutes. My batch of 10 took 25 minutes.

A little bit of PRADA!

Whilst galavanting around Italy we came across a few Prada outlets speckled across the country side and decide to call into one. I was desperately on the hunt for THE BAG, one that was classic timeless and made me run across the store like a child to a bouncy house. Allas it wasn’t meant to be, whilst they did have quiet a selection of past seasosn stock nothing left me drooling; however I wasn’t about to leave empty handed so I picked up these little beauties.

This particular day we had driven 4 hours through stressful winding roads, myself as head navigator obviously felt the brunt of the stress. Needless to say upon arriving at the glass doors of Prada I looked less then my best. I was surrounded by perfect manicures, designer bags and teeny dogs.  I lent to my partner and said ‘we have to act cool!’ Just before leaving I’m trying to choose a perfume so I pick one up and proceed to tiredly squirt it into my eyes, in the centre of this well manicured and impeccable presented store. We proceeded to turn slowly and exit the building.

A tip for those who love Italian Designers like myself. Even at general outlet stores in Italy if the brand like Prada is Italian the prices are generally cheaper.

BareMinerals Duo! = Life Saver! Review

DSC_2135I picked this little Duo up specifically to take away on holidays with me, due to its size the fact that it has a decent size mirror and the colours swatched pretty well. I can whole heartedly say after using it for four-ish months it is one of my staples.

Throughout the full month of travelling I reach for this little beauty multiple times a day. Especially when taking a look from day to night. All I would do is get that gorgeous gold colour and build it up in my crease while the lighter colour I had worn by itself that day acted as my eye base and highlight colour for my cheeks. Totally a multi faceted product that has a great colour pay off. Find it here.

Winter Warmer ‘Potato & Leek Soup’ – Vegetarian

I’ve had this image in my mind for a while of me a crackling fire, great book, and this mouth watering life changing soup. It had to be a classic balance of flavours, simple yet hardy, creamy something that left you so in love you had to have more! After careful deliberation I decided to create a Potato and Leek soup. I made a few different batches and listed the help of several professional taster to give there opinion and this my friends is the final product. Some have been quoted as saying ‘it’s the best soup I’ve ever had.’ It even satisfied the more fussy an eater.

You will need:

2kg of Potatoes

1 Leek

4 Sticks of Celery

3 Bay Leaves

2 Onions

150g of Butter (can use table spoon of oil for vegetarian)

600ml Thick Cream

3-4 cups sliced Mushrooms

12 Cups of Stock (I use Chicken)

Place you butter into a pot (don’t let it burn) and let it melt then place in you onion, half or your mushrooms on a medium heat. After a few minutes add in your celery and leek and remember to stir after 3 minutes (ish) add in your potato followed by your stock, bay leaves and reminder of your mushrooms and stir (make sure to get the bottom where the butter is). Let it cook for around 25 minutes at about a simmer then stir in your cream and leave for another 5 mins. The remove from the heat and use a potato masher to just roughly break up some of the potato, you want the majority to remain in chunks but breaking a few up releases the starch and helps thicken the soup ever so slightly.

As I sit here typing this post and uploading the pictures its freezing so I’m enjoying a delicious bowl of the previously mentioned magic soup!  :):)

Healthy Green Breakfast Smoothy #vegan

Healthy Green Smoothie The Rose

I love this smoothy for any time of the day, but in the morning before a workout or for breakfast its the best. It starts up your metabolism and digestion, fills you up and provides fibre, potassium, minerals and all of these other goodies plus it tastes delicious!!

You’ll need:

1 frozen Banana

Half a lime or 1/4 of a lemon

Handful of Spinach

1 1/2 cup of Coconut Water

1 Green apple

Blend away and your good to go! Honestly one of these for breakfast a day has given me more energy and kept everything moving ;). I’ve been trying to eat healthier (as its only 1 month now until my trip to Italy) so adopting a bit of a vegan lifestyle and exercising more. It hasn’t been as difficult as I thought but being aware has been the hardest I would walk into a bbq and just without realising shove my mouthful with some ham. So just taking a beat and being like ok what am I eating has been the biggest adjustment. Positives are I’ve discovered I love plain avocado sushi!! xx

Healthy Potato Chips #Vegan

I saw these lovely #vegan fries on a youtube video by @AnnieJaffrey (if you haven’t checked her out do yourself a favour and do it she’s amazing) and had to try them out. All you do is cut and wash some potatos then lie them on a sheet of baking paper, sprinkle them with curry powder and cook them for about 20 minutes on 210*C. Serve them with some lemon juice and voila delicious tasty and vegan!! I was a little apprehensive and my brother and father took a moment to adjust but they are delicious and the lemon juice makes such a difference.

Gluten Free dairy Free cookies The Rose

These cookies are so yummy you wouldn’t know that they are gluten free and dairy free!! They are perfect for a last minute easter prezzie, or great as a quick breakfast on the way out for work. I’m not exaggerating when I say in the last week I have made 3 batches of these bad boys they’re so addictive! They take about 30 minutes including cooking time to make.

So you will need:

100g of butter or coconut oil (depending on your diet)

225g of brown sugar

200g of gluten free flour I used rice flour

200g of whole oats

1 large egg

1 teaspoon of bicarb soda

100g of raisins, dates, chocolate chips

Over a medium flame place your butter or coconut oil into a pan to melt. Then pour it into a bowl containing your sugar.

Beat an egg in a separate bowl then mix it into the sugar/butter mix. Sieve in the flour and Bicarb soda, then add the remaining ingredients. Depending on your mixture you may need a tablespoon or two of milk, buttermilk or coconut milk just too add a little moisture.

A great way to use left over easter eggs is to quarter them and use them as chic chips. If you are using dates make sure to cut the up and some them in water to soften them when your ready to mix them in drain them and squeeze out the extra water.

You want to spoon the mixture onto a lined or greased tray. Place a tight ball of the mixture spaced out and flatten slightly with a spoon or you hand :):) Cook them for 15 minutes in a 220*C fan forced oven. This mixture will make about 10 decent sized cookies.

And now enjoy your almost guilt free cookies!!! If you have any left over easter chocolate try melting some and drizzling it over the top of the cookies I unfortunately made these before hand so didn’t have any. To melt chocolate place a glass bowl onto of a boiling pot of water place the chocolate in and stir. Delicious!!
